NEW SOURCE OF CHARITY GOODS COMES TO CANBERRA

Good360 Australia, the charity which puts corporate product donations in the hands of other charities who need them, is launching in Canberra on Wednesday 3 December with the arrival of a truck full of furniture donated for three Canberra charities.

Chair of Good360 Australia and Canberra region resident, Lyndal Thorburn, says “The furniture is just a small part of the office furniture that becomes available through the Better Building Partnership.

“The Partnership’s commercial office portfolio of 2.5 million square metres of space in the Sydney City Centre contains furniture which, when redundant, often ends up in landfill. By re-purposing this furniture for charities we will support their program delivery throughout the Canberra region.”

“Good360 Australia is delighted,” she said, “that our first three Canberra charity partners will be able to benefit from these furniture donations in time for Christmas.

“We are also thrilled that the local arm of Australian company Two Men and a Truck will transport this furniture to these charities, as part of its social responsibility program.”

Good360 Australia will be launching its GivingPlace online portal in early 2015. In the meantime we are open for charity registration and the first 1000 charities which register with us will also receive a box of stationery valued at around $250 donated by 3M Australia.

The stationery gift is also being supported by local Canberra businesses Hamperesque and Lollypotz.

Good360 Australia estimates that there are over 1200 charities in Canberra which could benefit from registering at its GivingPlace portal.

Background

Good360 Australia’s mission is to provide charities of all sizes and causes nationwide with access to vital corporate product donations enabling them to save money, expand programs and strengthen their impact. We make charitable giving simpler, more efficient and more effective.

Good360 received funding from the Snow Foundation in August 2014, to support development of its IT interface, the Good360 GivingPlace.

The furniture initiative was inspired through a partnership between Good360 Australia and the Sydney Industrial Ecology Network, which has been funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority to de-fit commercial buildings use green principles. It is estimated that diverting office de-fit equipment from landfill has the potential to return 3000 to 4000 tonnes of metals, timber, glass and plastics to the productive economy annually.

The furniture today is available through our partner The Goodman Group who asked us to help redistribute over 4,000sqm of furniture to the charitable sector. The Goodman Group supports Good360 by providing a warehouse in Western Sydney and have also further extended their support this month and offered an office space as well.

Two Men and a Truck is a hassle free, flat rate removalist company that started in a back yard in 1993 and now operates Australia-wide. The company launched its corporate social responsibility program in October 2013 and in the same year was awarded the Innovation Award by the Australian Furniture Removers Association in recognition of its contribution to the removal industry. In 2013 it also won the Better Business Awards for Sustainable Transport Practices and Staff Support. The company “doesn’t just move boxes it moves people”. It now has 47 trucks and carries out over 10,000 moves each year.

The three Canberra charities to which the furniture is being donated are:

  • Uniting Care Kippax provides emergency financial and material aid to all who live in Canberra and the surrounding areas.
  • Karralika Programs provides residential and outreach drug and alcohol programs
  • St Benedict’s Community Day Centre is a cooperative venture of Christian churches in Queanbeyan and provides assistance in finding appropriate housing, provides meals, support, as well as emotional, physical, and spiritual security for guests.

Delivery details

First drop off is expected at Uniting Care Kippax at 9am on Wednesday 3 December (corner of Hardwick Cres and Luke St Holt)

Delivery will then proceed to 160 Ainsworth street Phillip (Karralika) and 284 Crawford St Queanbeyan (St Benedict’s)
