What is the recovery gap?
The Recovery Gap is the period after an initial emergency ends, but before people have the basics they need to restart their lives.
The cameras leave, the fundraising appeals stop, but for thousands of families, the crisis is far from over.
Rather than duplicating the efforts of first responders, Good360 focus on what comes next: the weeks, months, and sometimes years that follow a disaster. We connect surplus goods from businesses with the charities and community organisations on the ground, getting the right things to the right people long after the headlines have moved on.
In Good360’s Bridging the Recovery Gap 2026 Report, we shine a light on the hidden shortfall in material aid that persists long after disaster strikes, and share real stories from the ground about what communities actually need to recover.

The Rising Cost of Living: Struggling to Cover the Essentials
In 2026, everyday Australians continue to be pushed to the edge of financial insecurity. Rising fuel costs, higher interest rates, ongoing supply chain disruptions and climbing operating costs are filtering down from big business — and it’s ordinary people who are feeling the squeeze.
Communities that have never needed support before are now turning to charities, adding even more pressure to an already stretched sector. When we surveyed our charity and school members in 2025, 82% of organisations stated that community demand for non-food aid had never been higher. Across the country, families are being forced to make impossible choices between paying for utilities, keeping up with medical appointments, or replacing essential home items like clothing and bedding.
For households on low incomes or living below the poverty line, the situation is even worse. Many are struggling to cover basic housing, food, and medical costs, let alone afford essential services like electricity and water. Making ends meet is getting harder every year.
At Good360, we believe everyone deserves access to the basics that support their wellbeing and comfort. We’re making sure essential household goods reach the people who need them most—because no one should have to go without.
Real stories, real impact
Steve's Transformation
We welcomed Steve with a hot meal and coffee and provided him with winter-appropriate clothes, including a Nike puffer jacket, a sleeping bag, a blanket, a pillow, a thermos, utensils, food, and travel bags to carry everything. When Steve put on the Nike jacket, his demeanour changed entirely. He transformed from the weary individual who walked in, to someone who felt like a superstar. His face lit up. Thank you, Good360 for your incredible generosity. Your donations are making a tangible difference in the lives of people like Steve, offering not just practical help but also a renewed sense of dignity and hope.
Uniting Vic/Tas
Creating a safe, welcoming, and functional environment
Our refuge has recently undergone renovations, and with the addition of new appliances from Harvey Norman, we can furnish our units and crisis accommodation properties in a way that truly makes a difference in the lives of our clients. These white goods are being used in kitchens and laundry areas, providing essential comfort and support for families who are rebuilding their lives after trauma. They help create a sense of normalcy during what is often a very difficult time.
We are incredibly grateful to Good360 for their generous support. These items are playing a crucial role in our ongoing efforts to create a safe, welcoming, and functional environment for the women and children who come to us for support.

Incredibly Generous Donation of Whitegoods
We are so thankful to partner with Good360 and the Davie Group to provide top quality, new bedding for the food pantry clients. Cyclone Alfred and the ongoing wet weather has meant that many households are battling mould and finding it hard to even wash and dry their linen. Having an extra set of bedding for each bed means that they can now wash and dry one set properly, without rushing.
The weighted blankets from the Davie Group were treasured by some of the teenagers who struggle with anxiety and other mental health issues. This is a luxury that many could not possibly afford. Thank you once again for providing dignity and comfort to some of the neediest in our community.

Addressing material deprivation
Material deprivation is living without the items that no one should have to go without. It means navigating daily life without the basic items that make a home safe, functional, and comfortable.
A home is more than just a place to live—it’s where we feel safe, comfortable, and ourselves. Research shows that furniture and furnishings provide a sense of personal identity, helping people feel secure and settled. But for many facing financial hardship, even the basics like bedding, cookware, or storage can be out of reach. Clothing is another essential that goes beyond warmth. Worn-out or ill-fitting clothes can affect self-esteem, dignity, and even a child’s willingness to go to school. In extreme weather, a lack of proper clothing can also impact health and well-being.
