Congratulations to our Member of the Month for May, Mind Australia! Based in Mackay, Queensland, Mind Australia’s Step Up Step Down utilises brand-new items from Good360 to provide mental health support to clients. Receiving much-needed essentials can do wonders for people in vulnerable situations, so we are grateful to have Mind Australia doing incredible work in their community.
When did Mind Australia join Good360?
We joined Good360 in 2021.
What programs do you use your Good360 donations for? Who does the program serve? How does it impact Australians in need?
We use donations for our Mackay Step Up Step Down Program which is a short term (up to 28 days) sub-acute residential service with recovery focused mental health support to help people transition out of hospital, or to avoid a hospital admission. Our service is a residential mental health recovery service for the community of Mackay and surrounding areas.
What is your favourite moment/interaction that you have had with a client when utilising the Good360 product?
Being able to give a razor to a young man who had no toiletries and no money to buy any. He was so happy and grateful as he recognised that he couldn’t afford a shaving kit like he was given thanks to Good360. The same young man has been really enjoying the protein powder and it has helped him get back into healthy eating. Other clients have been extremely grateful for the clothing, backpacks, other toiletries and protein powder.
How does Good360 help your mission?
Buying these goods ourselves really impacts our service budget and means that we cannot afford other items and services that we need for our clients and for our programs. The cleaning products have really helped us with infection control at our service which has saved us a lot of money.
What would happen if Good360 wasn’t here to help?
It would really impact the clients at our service and also our service budget. I believe that it would impact on the mental health of our residents as being able to help them with toiletries really helps to improve how people feel about themselves – practicing self care that is important with improving day to day mental health.
What is your favourite donation you have received from Good360? Why?
The shaving kits have been fantastic – many men come into our service from hospital with no toiletries and financial issues and these help give them back their dignity. They were also such good quality and very much appreciated. Other residents have enjoyed the LEGO as well as many other goods generously donated by Good360.
How many lives have you impacted through Good360’s donations?
Good360’s donations help up to 160-180 people in a year.
