Custom made shoes at a fraction of the cost for a good cause

Published on dailytelegraph.com.au October 11, 2016 by Tricia Hamilton

WHAT do big-brand companies do when they need to offload five semi-trailers of excess stock?

To the shock of Allison Covington, that stock often becomes landfill. That discovery was the birth of the charity, Good360.

After reading an article about an American charity that received non-perishable items from companies to send to the country’s most disadvantaged, Ms Covington knew there was more to be done in Australia to combat mass consumerism and give back to those who need it most.

“When a company makes a decision that they need to get rid of stock on that scale, it’s usually done pretty quickly,” she said. “And many charities just don’t have the capacity to accept a donation of that size.”

With the kindness of commercial property company Goodmans allowing Good360 to use a massive 4000-square-metre warehouse, the charity was able to take $12 million worth of goods from major brands.

The donations have flooded in and Good360 has recently expanded its warehouse size to 10,000- square-metres to allow for more stock.

Charities across Australia benefit from the donated Good360 goods, from domestic violence crisis centres to homeless shelters and Fairfield’s Parent’s Cafe which helps local refugee parents with settlement.

The cost of shipping this stock keeps growing so Good360 is holding its second annual Shoes of Prey sale to cover it.

Custom-made shoes that cost in excess of $200 will be available to the public for two days at a flat price of $50.

Ms Covington said the best part about the sale was that the shoes come in all sizes.

“Shoes Of Prey have been very generous with their donation and we have shoe sizes that range from as small as size 32 through to as big as size 49,” she said.

The doors open at 10am, and Ms Covington said if last year’s sale was anything to go by, it will be a busy day from the moment the doors open to closing time at 3pm.

The Shoes of Prey Sale will be held in the Good360 warehouse at 149 McCredie Road, Smithfield on Friday October 14 and Saturday, October 15 from 10am — 3pm.
