Climate Change – We can all do better

The news has been dominated in the last two weeks by the topic of Climate Change in the lead up to the UN Climate Summit in New York. David Attenborough has criticised the Morrison government’s climate policy record and support for new coal mines. The new United in Science report released by the UN indicates there is a growing gap between agreed targets to tackle global warming and the actual reality. Finally, Greta Thunberg’s impassioned speech at the UN Global Summit demanded action from world leaders saying ‘You all come to us young people for hope. How dare you? You have stolen my dreams and my childhood…’

Students and Business Unite

On Friday 23 September an estimated 300,000 Australians gathered around the country for the Student Strike 4 Climate to demand government action. Good360 joined over 2,800 businesses and organisations alongside students and pledged to join the Not Business As Usual alliance and allowed our staff to participate in the Climate Strike.

Businesses Take a Stand

While our own Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, skipped the climate summit this week and has said he is “committed to what I took to the Australian people; that was 26 per cent for 2030 and that’s what we’ll achieve”, Australian tech entrepreneur, Atlassian co-founder and CEO, Mike Cannon-Brookes will be announcing that Atlassian will adopt a net zero emissions target no later than 2050. This will see Atlassian become the first major Australian company to join the Business Ambition for 1.5C.

The Atlassian Foundation was also created with the vision of making a better world. As a company, they have pledged to contribute 1% of annual profits, 1% of employee time, and 1% of products to social impact organisations. Atlassian has been a long-time supporter of Good360 providing us with pro bono software including Jira, Trello and Confluence. Atlassian staff also donate their time volunteering at our Smithfield Warehouse to help get items into the hands of Australians’ in need.

Good360 Receive over $100 Million in Donated Goods

Good360 are working to help prevent Climate Change by creating a circular economy. By partnering with businesses, including manufacturing, wholesale and retailers, Good360 are helping give brand new surplus goods a second lease on life. Good360 is able to take excess goods and connect them to Australian’s in need.

How can you do more?

Do you work for a business that has surplus stock sitting idle? Can you connect us to a business that may want to donate their excess stock? Do you work for or know a charity (registered with the ACNC) or an eligible school (ICSEA ranking < 1,000) that could have greater impact by becoming a Good360 member?

Please get in contact today and we can make good happen together. Call (02)8594 3600 or email contact@good360.org.au.
