We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response to this donation of laptops, data and dongles from both recipients and the team members who’ve had the pleasure of distributing them to our residents. We would have been unable to have supported so many people with these essential tools for today’s world, without access to free devices sponsored by the City of Melbourne.
The laptop and data package has been an amazing addition to our scholarship program, where residents can apply for $500 towards achieving their goals. This amount isn’t enough to cover a laptop in most circumstances, so to be able to offer these packages to recipients to help them towards their education and employment goals means they have been able to spend the funding on tuition or other expenses and we are proud to have partnered with everyone to move residents further towards their goals.
The laptops were distributed to over 40 residents in a housing project. Here are a few of the responses from recipients:
“It will help with my productivity as it will help me manage my time better and complete tasks more efficiently. It will mean I can return to my 300m language classes which I have missed since my computer broke down and was not able to be repaired. Therefore, the laptop will aid me in my research and training. I will be able to watch TV programs (as I don’t have a television) which is great company as I live alone and spend many days home alone as I cannot leave home due to my injuries.”
“This laptop will help me to find a job. The laptop will also help me to follow up on emails as I do this on my phone, which makes it hard. It will also make it easier to do my art and my study. I love art and want to keep making my art, and having a computer will make this much easier. This will be good for my mental health.”
“I am an older woman and I am very lonely, so this laptop can make me very happy emotionally. I could have daily face-to-face time with my daughter and grandchildren who live in QLD and who I miss a lot. Plus I can stay connected with family overseas. I believe that this would improve the quality of my life. Thank you.”
