Congratulations to our Member of the Month for April, Salisbury High School. Since becoming a Good360 member in 2022, Salisbury High School have sourced plenty of brand-new goods for their school community to improve the wellbeing and learning experiences of their students in various programs. They have also shared a great number of impact stories, which have enabled the Good360 team and product donors to see the impact of their work. When did Salisbury High School join Good360?
We joined in 2022.
What programs do you use your Good360 donations for? Who does the program serve? How does it impact Australians in need?
We have been thrilled to be able to support multiple programs at our site with Good360 donations.
We started with building on our LEGO Clubs resources, by providing such an exciting range of resources, we were able to engage more students ensuring students had access to a safe, welcoming space where they could not only build LEGO but build positive relationships with staff and other students.
We have now been able to supply multiple class sets of LEGO to our STEM Department ensuring a multi-faceted approach to learning is created. The various levels of ability required to build the provided sets support all of our students with their creativity but also assist in building a high-level understanding of mechanics and machinery along with capacity and understanding of engineering, all in a fun, engaging way.
Students from our SWD (Students with a Disability) unit have benefited from their LEGO delivery as well. Staff use the LEGO in lessons to encourage fine motor skills, support storytelling activities, and provide structured experiences for students needing withdrawal time.
LEGO has enabled students to work together building relationships with peers and staff and has supported students to work independently to achieve successful goals.
We have also been able to support our ARTS Department with LEGO for their Digital IT course allowing students to create Stop Motion clips with LEGO Theatres.
Our delivery of the Build-A-Pack pallet was overwhelming. It enabled us to utilise the variety of products received across our site in so many ways. We were able to create welcome packs for new families attending Open Night, support our student clubs with games and handballs, and give our new students an idea of what to expect at our school during the transition with workbooks and stationery.
We were thrilled to receive the tomato packs. These have been used to support our SWD garden lessons but most importantly it has given us a vast supply of ‘prizes’ to support our site’s positive behaviour processes. As a site, we have appreciated access to the Dettol cleaning products as well, these products have helped us maintain a high level of hygiene in shared spaces which has reduced illness and maintained student attendance at our school.
What is your favourite moment/interaction that you have had with a client when utilising the Good360 product?
By far, the best moment was when our staff walked into our Meeting Room and saw the mountains of LEGO we had organised by purchasing the LEGO pallets. Their eyes were just about bulging out of their heads, we had lots of comments like, “Are you serious, where did you get all of this from”, “Why do people want to help us”, “Did this fall off the back of a truck?”, “How can we afford to do this” and we were just able to tell them that Good360 was all about supporting underprivileged community groups and schools to help us help our students.
How does Good360 help your mission?
We want our students to feel valued and supported, we want them to feel that they are worth it – and we are certainly able to do this now with the support of Good360.
What would happen if Good360 wasn’t here to help?
The reality of the situation is that as a school in a low socioeconomic area with over half of our families receiving School Card support we do not have access to funding to assist with purchasing ‘additional’ new resources. We need to focus our funding on staffing and maintaining our aging facilities; we have always ensured our students are provided with access to stationery and a laptop as we strive to ensure they are not left behind, but we would never have been able to provide them with the amazing opportunities that have become available through the support of Good360 and their partners.
What is your favourite donation you have received from Good360? Why?
Our last LEGO delivery was my favourite so far, it was ordered for our ARTS Department and as we walked it over to deliver it, the teacher came out and said that one particular student had been asking regularly about when it would arrive and had just been asking about it when we walked in. He was so excited to see it and get started on his Stop Motion clip – seeing his excitement and knowing that the learning experience he was about to have was now next level is why we love Good360 so much.
